Pam Ernest, Vice President of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services (SAPARS) in Wilton wrote a letter with details on resources they provide.
“I am writing to express my deep concern for the safety of our most vulnerable community members, especially during these turbulent times. At SAPARS, we are witnessing a troubling increase in calls from individuals across Maine seeking support. As a board member, I am particularly concerned about those in our community who may be experiencing sexual assault or being affected by human trafficking. Yes, this is happening right here, in our own communities, and it’s critical that we take action.
We want people to know that help is available. SAPARS offers:
● 24/7 Maine Helpline: 1-800-871-7741
● Support groups
● Accompaniment for survivors at hospitals, police stations, and court
● Group meetings, training, and educational programs
If you have questions or concerns about sexual assault or human trafficking, I urge you to reach out. Our team of educators is also available to visit schools, agencies, and community organizations to provide training on recognizing the signs of sexual assault and trafficking, as well as how to support survivors.
I also urge you to be in community with other volunteers, leaders, and funders of this movement. You can join us at our Spring Soiree on April 12, 2025 https://www.sapars.org/
