FARMINGTON – The past several years have been challenging for all those who provide services to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the State of Maine and
across the country. LEAP, which has served individuals and families for more than 40 years in western Maine, is no exception. The pandemic led to a staffing crisis and the concurrent rise in the cost of practically everything has been a test of the organization’s resilience and fortitude. For the most part, LEAP has weathered this storm, but continued challenges and changes lie ahead. It is time to prepare for the future. Part of that preparation is to talk to the people of LEAP – and the community to set financially viable goals and strategies that meet these challenges and align with LEAP’s mission and vision.
Please come to a Community Listening Session on Thursday, February 27 at 6 p.m. in the Bass Room at MaineHealth, Franklin Hospital. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP to [email protected].
A bit more context: LEAP currently provides services under sections 13, 21 and 29 of the MaineCare waiver. This is Case Management, in-home supports, group home supports and shared living. Starting within two years, the Department of Health and Human Services will be moving to a LifeSpan waiver, which allows for these services as well as other types of more individualized support, such as transportation and employment counseling. LEAP wants the visioning process to generate ideas and concepts that could lead to new endeavors or activities that benefit the organization or its people in ways yet undefined or recognized.
