This March, the Thursday Island Reading Series kicks off its spring season in style with award-winning YA novelist Shana Youngdahl. The Thursday Island Reading Series–a collaboration between Devany Doak and Garrett Booksellers, Twice Sold Tales, and The Rustica Journal–invites acclaimed authors to read their work and, in the spirit of classic Maine summer camps, share a skill or craft with the audience.
On Thursday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at Twice Sold Tales, book arts are landing on Thursday Island as Youngdahl will walk the audience through folding paper trees from manuscript pages and read from her new book A Catalog of Burnt Objects. Beer, wine, and copies of Youngdahl’s books will be available for purchase during and after the reading.
Shana Youngdahl is a multi-talented young adult author, poet, and professor, who lived, wrote, and taught at UMF until recently and now lives in Missouri where she is Associate Professor in the MFA in Writing Program at Lindenwood University. Youngdahl’s first YA novel, As Many Nows As I Can Get, was nationally recognized for its compelling characters and all-around excellence. Her second novel–A Catalog of Burnt Objects, set in a fictional version of Paradise, California before, during, and after the immolation–calls upon her own experience of growing up in Paradise, a town razed by a wildfire. A coming-of-age story with exceptional depth and relevance, A Catalog of Burnt Objects is a moving story—and Shana’s presentation promises to be a rewarding experience.
The Thursday Island Reading Series will continue its Spring Season with readings in April and May 2025, hosting authors in a dynamic array of genres and voices. More details about authors and dates to be announced shortly.
